When Schlitz Playhouse of Stars first premiered it was an hour long live drama from New York.

The format changed in April 1952 to a half hour show.

During the summer of 1954 filmed episodes appeared along with live ones.

This completely changed by fall 1956 to entirely filmed dramas,

as well as the title shortened to Schlitz Playhouse of Stars.

It remained weekly until the start of the eighth season when it aired

on alternate-week basis with Lux Playhouse.

Two episodes were turned into series', "The Restless Gun" starring John Payne

and "A Tale of Wells Fargo" starring Dale Robertson both Westerns aired during

the 1956-57 season and turned up on NBC's lineup in the fall of 1957.

 

Syndication airing on Play of the Week (not to be confused with The Play of the Week specials).

Even as a child in Germany, Charles Steimetz was lonely, preferring to work with

inventions rather than play with other children. As he grows to young manhood, Charles

utilizes his brilliant mind to become an electrical engineer. At 24, he embarks on a

journey to America. It is on board ship that he meets Asmussen, with whom he forms

a friendship that lasts a lifetime. On reaching America, Steinmetz finds that immigration

officials can't admit him into the country because he hasn't enough money and has no

prospect of a job. With Asmussen's help, however, he is finally able to enter the U.S.

But although he comes to be known the world over as a scientist,
