Directed by Hamilton S. Luske
"The Mystery of Fairs" written by Mel Leven, song by The Hi-Los
Animation Director: Ward Kimball
Cartoon Story by Bill Berg
Songs by Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman
Hosted by Walt Disney
Synopsis:
Walt Disney shows viewers dinosaurs that will be used at the 1964 New York
World's Fair in their pre-historic ride at the Fair. Then a cartoon history of
World's Fairs with cave men holding World Fairs is shown, often nonsensical and
hilarious (such as a cave man with a big match, which he lights and another
cave man lights his cigar in the flame and then the cigar explodes). Walt then
goes into a film history of World's Fairs which at times is nonsensical and hilarious.
Then the 1939 World's Fair in New York is shown in color. Walt then gets back
to the dinosaurs and then shows cave men that will be used at the Fair which are
audio-animatronic. Next is the Carousel Theatre of Progress, and Walt shows
how audio-animatronics work. It is all recorded on tape, from the wink of an eye
to mouth movements. We then see the performance of the Carousel Theatre, as the
song "There's a Great and Beautiful Tomorrow" is sung. We are then shown a
model of the Tower of the Four Winds, and then we go to the World's Fair itself
and see the tower. The characters of Disneyland gather at the RCA pavilion to
entertain kids and adults. The show winds down with the "It's a Small World" ride
at the Fair and the show ends with fountains and fireworks. [CB]

*Note: Blaine Gibson and Roland Crompu were featured in "Disneyland Goes to
The World's Fair". They'd later be in "Disneyland 10th Anniversary."

They were part of the imagineering department. [CB]

Guest:
Julie Reems, Miss Disneyland Tencennial. [CB]

Synopsis:
Walt Disney introduces Julie Reems, Miss Disneyland Tencennial, who is to travel
as Disneyland's official ambassador and tell people of Disneyland's future plans.
Walt takes Julie to tour the imagineering department, where some new additions
are going to be made to Disneyland, including a new restaurant, a haunted mansion
and a new ride taking people back to the Carribean where pirates used to roam
the sea. He shows how he makes audioanimatronic characters, and the show concludes
with the "It's a Small World" exhibit. He shows Julie the miniatures and busts of pirates that will be made for
the ride, and then shows Julie the storyline of the ride. Tinkerbell then with her "magic"
takes us to Disneyland for the big celebration with Mickey and the gang. There is
a birthday cake with dancing candles (girls in candle costumes), and nonsensical
pieces of the cake going every which way. Next is the Anaheim high school bands
marching at Disneyland's main street and Mickey pounding an oversized big drum.
Walt then goes over with Julie the history of Disneyland, film archives that include
the Shah of Iran, Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands, and India's Prime Minister Nehru
as well as U.S. President Dwight Eisenhower and grandchildren riding the rides at
Disneyland. John Mills with his wife and daughter Hayley explore the Swiss Family
Robinson Treehouse. The Jungleland ride is shown. Walt then introduces Julie
to one of the parrots at the Tiki room, and the secrets of how it works are revealed.
The last scene is Disneyland at night, and the Dixieland at Disneyland celebration
with bands playing. The show ends with people singing on the steamship
Mark Twain "When the Saints Come Marching In" and fireworks explode in the sky.  [CB]
